I. The Wire Grab is designed to retrieve a broken wireline during fishing operations, after a split skirt wirefinder has been deployed to locate and ball the upper end of the wire in the well bore.

The wire grab consists of a top sub complete with fishing neck and pin connection and a body with two or three bendable prongs. Each prong has several pointed barbs welded on the inner side to form hooks.The flexible design allows the operator to bend the grab prong ends to suit the tubing ID which helps to prevent the wire grab from bypassing the broken line.

The wire grab is deployed into the well attached to a fishing toolstring by means of a dummy rope socket and pulling tool.

When ordering, please provide the following relevant information to ensure correct grab is supplied.

II.The wireline grab consists of a hollow housing below the top sub. Either two or three long slots are machined to the bottom of the housing to form the prongs. There are barbs attached to the inside of the prongs pointing upward. The bottom end of the prongs are tapered to guide the wire to the inside of the grab and to conform to the inner diameter of the tubing.

The number of prongs will vary with the I.D of the tubing to maintain the strength of the grab. Smaller sizes of grabs will have only two prongs, while larger O.D may have three or more. The wireline grab’s O.D. usually corresponds to the drift diameter of the tubing, but can be constructed to a desired choice of O.D.Threaded may also be added to top of grabs to get desired O.D. so as not to allow wire and debris past the wire grab.
