The hydrostatic bailer is a wireline service tool used to clear the debris which has settled on the top of the subsurface equipment, preventing the recovery of the equipment by regular wireline operations. when the sand pump bailer cannot fish the downhole sundries effectively, which is connected with the bottom of the basic tool string.
The interior of the barrel of the hydrostatic bailer is an atmospheric-pressure sealed chamber. When the bailer is lowered in place, the jar will move downward for a short distance, cut off the shear pin and a pressure difference is formed inside and outside of the bailer. Under the function of pressure difference, the sundries in the well and others will enter into the barrel and the steel ball will fall off, and then passageway is closed to prevent the sand from flowing back.

When the tool works downward, the jarring sleeve will hit the piston, the shear pin will be cut off, the piston will move upward, there is a pressure difference inside and outside of the bailer, and the rock waste in the well will be sucked up. When lifting the tool string upward, the steel ball will fall into the hole of pipe hole, and the rock waste sucked up will be blocked by the steel ball and kept in the barrel, and then pull out the tool. The cylindrical pin plays a role of blocking the upward movement of steel ball.
